TRAVERSE CITY — Police are seeking the public's help in identifying an arson suspect.
Enhanced video footage from July 6 shows a male suspect light a fire in a wooded area between the J&S Hamburg restaurant and the Record-Eagle building on Front Street. Traverse City Police Capt. Brian Heffner said the fire occurred on the last day of the National Cherry Festival and is similar to four subsequent arson incidents in and around Traverse City.
"We don't know if these are connected," he said. "However they seem to be similar in how they're lit."
The most recent arson occurred Friday morning in the 600 block of Grant Street where a brush pile was lit and burned down a garden shed.
The suspect is described as between 20 and 30 years old, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall.
"We want to talk to him about this arson and the subsequent arsons," Heffner said.
