---- — Elk Rapids teachers receive IB training
TRAVERSE CITY — Elk Rapids Public Schools moved one step closer to International Baccalaureate programming at the primary school level.
Nearly all of the district’s preschool, paraprofessional and elementary teachers participated in IB Primary Years Program training last week.
Elk Rapids Middle School was formally authorized as an IB school last spring after three years of training, restructuring curriculum and a visit to Elk Rapids from three IB officials who evaluated the middle school through interviews with staff and students, and classroom observations.
District officials said they hope to complete a similar process at the elementary level within the next three or four years.
The IB education model promotes independent and critical thinking, and multicultural understanding and awareness, according to the International Baccalaureate website.
