Father from Sleeping Bear ordeal identified

GLEN ARBOR — An Orchard Lake man who sparked a day-long search after he took his three minor children into Sleeping Bear Dunes and hid from authorities is expected to appear in court in Emmet County.

Daniel Gerard Elliott, 50, and his three children -- ages 14, 10 and 9 -- were found in good health Monday evening after spending more than 12 hours in the wilderness. Elliott was wanted on a misdemeanor domestic violence warrant from a Sunday incident involving his wife.

He was arrested Monday evening.

No arraignment has been scheduled in 90th District Court, but a magistrate is expected to set bond today.
