Parking garage rates to rise

TRAVERSE CITY — The Downtown Development Authority authorized an increase in transient parking rates at the city’s two municipal parking decks.

Approval by city commissioners when they meet June 3 would mean prices will go from 50 cents an hour to $1. The maximum charge per-day would increase from $5 to $10.

DDA staff initially proposed it to be a seasonal hike for the months of June, July and August, but the board expanded it to be effective year-round.

“I think the feeling was that the rates are already considerably lower than they are in other communities and this just kind of gets us to the point where we’re more in line with other communities,” said DDA Deputy Director Rob Bacigalupi.
