Sexual assault case headed to Circuit Court

TRAVERSE CITY — A man accused of sexually assaulting a female family member is headed toward trial.

Paul Albert Draper, 45, waived a preliminary examination this week in 86th District Court. He was bound over to 13th Circuit Court on felony counts of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The victim told investigators she awoke in November to Draper inappropriately touching her, a police report states. She said she pretended to be asleep and shifted away, but the assault continued.

A DNA swab of Draper’s hands indicated evidence of sexual contact.

A breath sample taken after the incident indicated Draper had a .158 blood-alcohol content.

Draper remains lodged in Grand Traverse County Jail, according to records.
