3 accused of stealing copper wire from Menards

TRAVERSE CITY — Three people, including a 13-year-old, are accused of stealing copper wire from Menards.

Employees at the Blair Township store said the suspects loaded a shopping cart with copper wire spools worth $1,800 on April 10 and 11 and walked out. The juvenile is accused of pushing the cart on one occasion, Grand Traverse sheriff’s Capt. Randy Fewless said.

The suspects returned on April 12, and Menards employees recognized them from surveillance video and called deputies. Authorities arrested a Traverse City man, 31, inside the store for second-degree retail fraud.

Another man, 33, of Interlochen, drove away when deputies arrived, Fewless said. They planned to issue a warrant for his arrest.

The teen’s case will be handled in probate court.
