Clerk jumped after locking up station

BENZONIA — An unknown assailant jumped a gas station attendant from behind and robbed him of the station’s proceeds as the victim locked up for the night.

The Benzie County Sheriff’s Department reported the incident occurred July 5 at about 10:20 p.m. at the Benzonia Timberline Shell Station. The clerk was struck twice from behind with an unknown object as he was walked to his vehicle. The assailant took an undisclosed amount of money.

The victim described the suspect as a male about six feet tall with a stocky build. He wore white tennis shoes, blue jeans, and a gray hoodie. The assailant drove off in a yellow or light-colored SUV or truck.
