National Cherry Festival Schedule: 07/03/2013

Today: 7:30 a.m.

Business Before Hours: Networking opportunity for regional business owners and staffers. Coffee and cherry-infused breakfast treats from Grand Traverse Pie Company. Raffle drawings, souvenirs and gift certificates to be offered. Smith, Haughey, Rice & Roegge Law Offices, 101 North Park St.

8:30 a.m.

Cherry Tee Golf Clinic: For beginners and advanced players. Limit first 30 participants. Walk-ins taken as space allows. Call Bay Meadows Golf Course 231-946-7927 to reserve space. Bay Meadows Golf Course, 5220 Barney Road.

9 a.m.

Fun and Games for Special Kids: Fun-filled morning for hearing, visually, physically impaired and developmentally disabled children. Activities include pie making, obstacle course, face painting and a trip to the Midway. Wheelchair repair will be available. Event runs from until noon. Festival Open Space at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Seniors Shuffleboard Tournament: Equipment provided, or bring your own. Must be 50 and older. Prizes awarded to top finishers. No fee. Traverse City Senior Center, 801 E. Front St.

10 a.m.

Cherry Connection: Bringing Together Festival, Farm, and Fruit

Join Michigan State University Extension at 100-acre research farm in Leelanau County: Guided orchard tours, kids events, exhibits and samples of cherry products. Cherry Connection Shuttle picks up and drops off on the west side of the Traverse City Visitor’s Center on Garland Street every half hour from 9:30 a.m. until noon. At Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Center, 6686 S. Center Highway.

Festival Souvenir Tent: Browse T-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, coffee mugs, hats, kids clothing, cherry jewelry and more. Festival Open Space Marketplace at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Kids Bicycle Rodeo: Timed obstacle course. Separate heats for boys and girls and age groups 5-10. Children must bring their own bikes and helmets. Register 9-9:45 a.m. No fee. Grand Traverse Mall parking lot (near Pier One), 3200 South Airport Road West.

Million Dollar Hole-in-One Golf Contest: The closest to the pin qualifiers will return July 6 for a shot at $1 million. Closest to the pin wins a flatscreen TV from Best Buy. Bay Meadows Golf Course, 5550 Bay Meadows Drive.
