Police: Man arrested after shooting at Grand Traverse deputies

GRAWN — Authorities arrested a 50-year-old man after they said he shot at deputies from a mobile home.

Deputies from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department responded to a mobile home in the 1600 block of Sunburst Street on Sunday about 2:45 p.m. on report of shots fired.

Deputies and a Department of Natural Resources conservation officer formed a perimeter around the home and made phone contact with a person inside, Sheriff Tom Bensley said.

A man left the residence and as deputies were detaining him, another man opened the door and fired a semi-automatic rifle from the porch.

A deputy returned fire. The man retreated to the mobile home, from where he was ordered out.

Neither the suspect nor deputies were struck in the gunfire exchange.

Four bullets went into a mobile home across the street. Two people inside were not injured.

Michigan State Police are investigating the incident. Lt. David Street said the suspect suffered a broken leg in authorities' efforts to detain him, and he is receiving treatment at Munson Medical Center.

The two men at the home are a father and step-son, Bensley said. The other man at the residence was not arrested.

The suspect faces multiple felony charges and awaits arraignment in 86th District Court.
