Authorities probe teen's death in Antrim jail

BELLAIRE — Authorities are investigating a teenager's suicide in Antrim County's jail.

Darren Bradley McWatters, 17, of Jordan Township, was found hanging by a sheet from his cell bars on July 6 at about 11 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the jail by an Antrim County medical examiner.

Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean said corrections officers last saw him alive about 45 minutes earlier. He said McWatters was being held on a felony charge of resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Michigan State Police are investigating the incident.
