15-year-old driver dies in Kalkaska crash

KALKASKA — A Kalkaska teen died in an Ingersoll Road accident after her vehicle left the roadway.

Stormi Ann Elkins, 15, was killed on impact in a crash early Friday. Authorities said she was on a curve just east of Deibert Road but was unable to stay on the road, struck several trees and came to rest in waist-deep water on the edge of Ingersoll Lake.

Kalkaska County Sheriff Dave Israel said Elkins did not have driver’s license, but did have a learner’s permit. He said the vehicle belonged to the family of one of the vehicle’s three male occupants, who were aged between 17 and 19 years old.

“We’re not sure where they had been,” he said.

One of the passengers crawled out of the vehicle and walked a mile to a neighborhood house to report the accident. Israel said all three received treatment at Munson Medical Center and at least one was seriously injured.
