Outstanding educators recognized

TRAVERSE CITY — Ten professionals from schools across the Grand Traverse region have been honored as 2014 Outstanding Educators for their exceptional contributions to the academic success of students, educational collaboration and professional development.

The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce created the Outstanding Educator Award Program in 1984. It’s now facilitated by the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District in partnership with TBA Credit Union and the Chamber.

Nominations are submitted by public, private and parochial school administrators, colleagues, students and parents throughout the five-county Traverse Bay region. Submissions are reviewed by a selection committee and scored based on demonstrated educational excellence.

Here are the award-winners:

n Becky Callery, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School science and math teacher at Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools

n Erick Chittle, St. Francis High School principal at GTACS

n Deb Menchaca, Career-Tech Center math teacher with the TBAISD

n Amy Muzzarelli, Elk Rapids High School science teacher

n Cindy Pascoe, Central High School consumer sciences teacher with Traverse City Area Public Schools

n Kelly Rintala, West Senior High School language arts teacher with TCAPS

n Rod Taplin, St. Francis High School social studies teacher with GTACS

n Lynne Tobin, Pathfinder School music teacher

n Martha U’Ren, West Senior High School administrative assistant with TCAPS

n Heather Wares, West Middle School science teacher with TCAPS
