A sentence in the story “TCAPS board members disapprove TBAISD general fund budget” in Wednesday’s Record-Eagle needs clarification. Paul Soma, Traverse City Area Public Schools associate superintendent of finance and operations, estimates TCAPS spends more than $7 million annually on special education programs, which runs at a $2 million deficit. That deficit could be paid for by money in the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District’s special education budget, Soma contends.

“The point I was trying to make is we’re running a $2 million deficit and they’re running a multi-million dollar surplus,” Soma said.
