Embezzlement case headed to circuit court

TRAVERSE CITY — A former food service manager for Munson Medical Center moved closer to trial on accusations he embezzled thousands of dollars from the hospital.

Jeffrey Joseph Ales, 42, of Traverse City, waived his right to a preliminary examination Monday in 86th District Court. He pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of embezzlement from a nonprofit.

Judge Michael Stepka ordered the case bound over to 13th Circuit Court for trial.

Munson officials counted $27,500 in personal purchases that Ales made in the hospital’s name, court documents state. Ales worked as a senior manager for Sodexo, a company contracted to provide the hospital’s food services.
