The Titans of Traverse City West got out to an early lead, then held on for a 2-1 win over rival Traverse City Central in Division I district soccer tournament action Wednesday night.
West took the lead in the 11th minute on a Christien Geiger goal that was set up by Marvin Lenz. Then six minutes later the Titans extended their lead to 2-0 on an Alex Patton goal assisted by Nico Ragel.
Central cut the lead to 2-1 with two minutes left in the game on a Reilly Detar goal, but the Trojans couldn't find an equalizer.
West will hit the road to face the winner of tomorrow's Midland Dow/Saginaw Heritage game in the district championship match Saturday at 2 p.m.
In Division III, host Elk Rapids defeated Grayling 2-1, while on the other side of the bracket Traverse City Christian downed Cheboygan 6-0. The Elks and Sabres will meet in the championship game Friday night in Elk Rapids.
And in Division IV, Buckley defeated McBain Northern Michigan Christian, 3-2. The Bears will play for their first district title in 10 years this Friday against Leland.
Traverse City West is still unbeaten in the Big North Conference after defeating Cadillac 3-2 (25-23, 26-24, 11-25, 23-25, 15-5).
