---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Two snowmobiling brothers face charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement after leading leading Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers on a chase through a residential neighborhood.
Chadwick Matthew Gaylord, 37, of Traverse City and Matthew David Gaylord, 21, of Kingsley, were arrested last weekend.
Officer Mike Hearn said he was driving down High Lake Road when he observed that a passing snowmobile didn’t have a valid trail permit.
“When I noticed they were unlicensed, my partner spun around on them,” he said. “As soon as they saw us start to turn that’s when they went to the field.”
Hearn said his vehicle reached up to 50 miles per hour chasing the snowmobiles. He said the chase led them through a subdivision. At one point, they were going against the flow of traffic.
“They were flying,” Hearn said.
The suspects were apprehended without incident while trying to go inside the older brother’s house. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 29.
