Influenza led to Central Lake second-grader's death

— TRAVERSE CITY - A Central Lake Elementary School second-grader died of pneumonia caused by influenza, health officials said.

Olivia Hurst, 8, died at Charlevoix Area Hospital on Jan. 20.

The Charlevoix County medical examiner determined the cause of death late last week, said Dan Reynolds, administrative services manager at the Health Department of Northwest Michigan.

Hurst had a "bubbly, outgoing and free-spirit personality," family members wrote in an obituary. She is survived by her parents and three siblings.
