Hit-and-run tips surpass 400

TRAVERSE CITY — Police have logged more than 400 tips on the hit-and-run death of a Traverse City bicyclist.

A round-the-clock investigation started July 5 when a motorist struck and killed Kelly Ann Boyce, 29, as she pedaled her bicycle home. Detectives reached out to the public for help and received an overwhelming response.

“We call everybody back,” said Traverse City Police Capt. Brian Heffner.

The number of tips stood at 411 on Thursday.

Investigators on Thursday also took advantage an opportunity to get a bird’s-eye view of where the incident occurred. Heffner said police closed streets in the area so a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter could take aerial photographs of the area around Washington and Railroad streets. The motorist struck Boyce in the 600 block of Washington Street and turned down Railroad Street.

“It may help in the investigation,” Heffner said. “If and when this case goes to court, it will help us better understand and explain to someone who’s not familiar with the case what transpired and what led to her death.”
