---- — MAPLE CITY — Authorities say a Cedar woman struck a Kasson Township man several times in his groin area with the pointed end of a spade shovel.

Leelanau County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence Thursday at about 8 p.m. in the 8900 block of South Maple City Road to a report of a possible stabbing. The male victim, 40, told deputies a man and a woman came to his residence to collect some property and a fight broke out when another man arrived.

Undersheriff Steve Morgan said the man was being held down on the floor when a fourth person, a woman, came through the door with a spade shovel.

“The female came through the door and jabbed at him,” he said. “It was his upper thigh area (that) was targeted.”

The man suffered abrasions but declined to be transported to the hospital.

Morgan said a Cedar woman, 41, admitted to using the shovel in the assault and was arrested on a felonious assault charge. She’s is being held in Leelanau County Jail. He said a report was sent to the Leelanau County prosecutor’s office requesting assault charges on a 33-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both of whom are from Cedar.
