---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Two Traverse City teens remained hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in Garfield Township.
Grand Traverse County sheriff's Capt. Dave Meachum said the accident occurred Thursday at 4 p.m. when the driver of a Jeep Laredo headed east on Potter Road was struck by a semi tractor-trailer headed north on Garfield Road.
"A witness said the Jeep missed (a) stop sign and went into the path of the semi," he said.
The driver of the Jeep, Ian Hathaway, 17, and his passenger, Tyler Morse, 17, both wore seat belts but were injured and transported to Munson Medical Center. Spokesman Dave Killingbeck said Friday that Hathaway was in critical condition and Morse was in fair condition.
Meachum said the semi driver, Cory Dean, 27, of Grawn, was not injured. He said an accident investigation is ongoing, but there were no obstructions to the stop sign on Potter Road.
"It's a very open intersection," he said.
