Grawn woman struck, killed on M-137

INTERLOCHEN — Authorities identified a pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle on M-137 in Green Lake Township as Joann Schafer, 59, of Grawn.

Grand Traverse County sheriff’s Capt. Randy Fewless said Schafer was crossing the roadway near Railroad Street Saturday at 7:31 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Donald Komrska, 78, of Interlochen. Schafer died at the scene.

"One witness saw her run into … the road, in an unlit area and not in a crosswalk," Fewless said.

Alcohol was not a factor, Fewless said. It is not clear why Schafer was crossing the road or where she was headed.
