Judge's son sentenced

TRAVERSE CITY — A local judge’s son will spend one year on probation after he pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge that stems from his part in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31.

Michael Joseph Stepka, 25, of Traverse City, suffered serious injuries in an April 10 crash. Authorities said he and another driver, Travis Gary-Leinier Ingersoll, 25, drunkenly drove side-by-side on U.S. 31 and collided.

Stepka is 86th District Court Chief Judge Michael S. Stepka’s son. He appeared in that court Monday before visiting Judge Patricia Morse and pleaded no contest to an operating while intoxicated charge.

Morse sentenced Stepka to one year of probation plus fines and court costs.
