Kalkaska fugitive arrested in Pa.

KALKASKA — A Kalkaska man who faces criminal sexual conduct charges was arrested in Pennsylvania after five months on the run.

A U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force arrested Thomas Fay Ball, 56, at a natural gas drilling site in Bradford County, Pa. on July 12. Kalkaska County authorities on Feb. 26 issued a warrant on felony first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct charges involving a person under the age of 13.

Edward Holst, a supervisory deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service in Pennsylvania, said Michigan State Police contacted their Pennsylvania counterparts with information on Ball’s location. A U.S. Marshals fugitive task force took on the case on July 8 and quickly found their man.

“This is the first one we’ve had from Michigan in a while,” Holst said. “But it’s not uncommon for whatever the offense may be for the fugitive to go state-to-state.”

Ball was arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant and is being held in Bradford County jail. Kalkaska County Prosecutor Mike Perreault said he expects sheriff’s deputies or a prisoner transport service to return Ball to Michigan once the extradition process is complete.

“The defendant has an opportunity to challenge the extradition, but that’s rarely done,” he said.

Perreault said more information on the Ball’s charges would be available after an arraignment in 87th District Court.
