Going for the gold

TRAVERSE CITY — Crown neighbors are a tight-knit bunch. So tight-knit that residents of the golf community like to celebrate a certain milestone occasion together.

“It’s an annual get-together for people married 50 years or more,” said Elsie Benson, who belongs to the exclusive club with her husband, Robert. “We’re not only friends but we’re celebrating the common goal of achieving 50 years of marriage — to the same person.”

This year’s golden-plus celebration took place Oct. 10 at the Traverse City Golf & Country Club. Together the 12 couples who participated represent 667 years of wedded bliss.
