Blue Angels still on for 2014 Cherry Fest

TRAVERSE CITY — The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels are not scheduled to perform at the National Cherry Festival this summer, so the grounding of the aerial stunt team this year will have no effect on this summer’s festivities, said the festival’s executive director.

“We got confirmation in December that we’ll have them in 2014 and we haven’t heard anything otherwise,” Trevor Tkach said. “Everything they’ve talked about is only for this year.”

The Navy’s aerial acrobats were grounded for the rest of the year due to federal sequestration cuts. The move is expected to save the Navy $20 to $25 million.
