Styx, Foreigner, Montgomery Gentry to play Cherry Fest

TRAVERSE CITY — Two classic rock acts and a country music staple are among the musical acts scheduled to perform at this year’s National Cherry Festival.

Styx is set to open the festival on June 29. The band founded in suburban Chicago during the early 1970s registered numerous hits including “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade,” “Blue Collar Man” and “Fooling Yourself.”

Country act Montgomery Gentry is scheduled to perform on the Cherry Festival’s Bay Side Music Stage on June 30. The band led by Kentucky natives Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry has many top 10 singles after breaking onto the country scene with their “Hillbilly Shoes” album in 1999. Their top songs include “Lucky Man,” “Something to be Proud Of” and “Roll With Me.”

Classic rock’s Foreigner is set to take the stage on July 1. The group formed in the mid-1970s and churned out a long list of hits such as “Feels Like the First Time,” “Cold as Ice,” “Long Way From Home” and “Juke Box Hero.”

Additional musical guests will be announced at a later date. Tickets for the National Cherry Festival Bay Side Music Stage will go on sale May 5 at 8 a.m.
