TRAVERSE CITY — More snow is likely in northern Michigan today followed by a precipitous drop in temperatures.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Nick Schwartz said the Traverse City area and surrounding counties could see another three to six inches of snow today, thanks to lake effect snow belts. By Saturday, temperatures are going to sink.
"It's going to be pretty chilly on Saturday to say the least," Schwartz said. "Highs will struggle to get out of the teens."
The overnight low Saturday will be in the single digits with wind chills approaching zero degrees. Temperatures will rise Sunday above the 20-degree mark.
Grand Traverse County 911 dispatchers saw a "huge increase" in crashes late Thursday, they said. Multiple accidents blocked intersections and caused delays county-wide, several vehicles unable to make it up hills in several spots.
