East Jordan pair charged in meth case

EAST JORDAN — A man and woman suspected of running a methamphetamine lab in Antrim County face felony charges.

Robbyn Johnson, 30, of Mancelona, and Chad Jon Hoppe, 26, of East Jordan, are charged with one count of operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine.

Detectives from the Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement team went to 3160 Big Marsh Road on Oct. 2 with information that the property possibly was used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Detectives found items commonly associated with the production of methamphetamine: a clear 2-liter bottle with a "white, crusty" substance inside; a pop bottle with clear tubing coming from the cap; two empty cans of starter fluid; and two bottles that contained lye.

A Michigan State Police lab tested the substance in the clear bottle positive for methamphetamine.

Interviews with the suspects revealed that Hoppe allowed his property to be used for the production of methamphetamine and Johnson would purchase pseudoephedrine for its production, court documents show.

The two were not lodged in Antrim County Jail as of Friday afternoon.
