National Cherry Festival Schedule: 07/01/2013


9 a.m.

Very Cherry Distinguished Senior Breakfast

Announcement of the 2013 Distinguished Senior. Fee of $5 and reservations required. Traverse City Elks Lodge, 625 Bay St.

10 a.m.

Cherry Connection: Bringing Together Festival, Farm and Fruit

Join Michigan State University Extension at 100-acre research farm in Leelanau County. Guided orchard tours, kids events, exhibits and samples of cherry products. Cherry Connection Shuttle picks up and drops off on the west side of the Traverse City Visitor’s Center on Garland Street every half hour from 9:30 a.m. until noon. At Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Center, 6686 S. Center Highway.

Festival Open Space Marketplace at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Health By The Bay

Local businesses teach how to get fit with area gyms, exercise classes and fun activities. Health experts will offer tips. Blue Cross Blue Shield booth will be perform free health screenings and body mass index measurements. Until 4 p.m. Festival Open Space Park North at Grandview Parkway and Union Streets.

Heroes Day

Festival-goers serving representing the Armed Forces, public safety and Homeland Security will be recognized. Festival Open Space Park West at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Kids Bubble Gum Blow

Register 9:30-10 a.m. For ages 4-12. No fee. Event runs until noon. Grand Traverse Mall, 3200 South Airport Road West.

Million Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Contest

Bay Meadows Golf Course; 5550 Bay Meadows Drive.

Princess Tea

Come dressed in your favorite princess dress and have tea with 2012-2013 National Cherry Queen Meg Howard and her Royal Court. Hagerty Conference Center at Northwestern Michigan College’s Great Lakes Culinary Institute, 715 E. Front St.

Cherry Classic Film Series

Carole Lombard Week at the State Theatre. Free admission. Today’s movie: My Man Godfrey. 233 E. Front Street.
