KINGSLEY — A Boyne City man faces criminal charges after authorities said he drove drunk and pushed his grandmother from a vehicle.
Joseph Allen Ciofani, 40, is charged with third-offense domestic violence, third-offense operating under the influence of alcohol, operating with a suspended license, and as a habitual offender.
A witness who was on M-113 on Feb. 12 told police a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction swerved into his lane near Clark Road, according to court documents. The second vehicle then followed the witnesses’ vehicle into the Northland Food & Family Center parking lot.
Another witness said Ciofani got out to pump gas and a passenger, an elderly woman, also got out.
The woman appeared distraught and told the witness her grandson had pushed her head up against the window of the car and pushed her out, according to court documents.
The witness took the woman into the store and called 911.
Ciofani admitted to a deputy he had consumed alcohol that day, court documents show. A preliminary breath test revealed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17.
A preliminary examination is scheduled for Feb. 27.
