TCL&P sends coal dock to city

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Light & Power board members voted to transfer ownership and responsibility for deciding the future of the coal dock property off M-22 to the city commission.

Leaders from area nonprofits that want to control the property opposed the transfer as premature. But utility board members said during the Tuesday meeting the move will empower city commissioners to address the nonprofits’ request to develop the pier in Elmwood Township.

“This does move it along and to do nothing would have meant nothing would happen,” said Tim Arends, TCL&P executive director.
