TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man faces felony charges after his live-in girlfriend said he assaulted her in East Bay Township.
Kevin Jacob Yzbick, 38, and the victim had lived together for a little more than a week when, on March 18, he choked her until she thought she was going to lose consciousness, court documents state.
A day later the victim said she and Yzbick were in a car when he acted violently. He grabbed the woman by her hair and slammed her face into the center console, breaking her nose, the victim told deputies.
Yzbick is accused of then threatening the woman with a pair of brass knuckles, telling her he would “rather catch another case and go back to prison (than) to let her live another day,” according to court documents.
He faces multiple charges, including assault to do bodily harm, assault with a dangerous weapon, and as a habitual offender.
Records do not indicate Yzbick has prior criminal convictions in Grand Traverse County or through the Michigan Department of Corrections.
He is held without bond awaiting an April 11 preliminary examination, according to court documents.
