TRAVERSE CITY — It’s lights, camera, action for Northwestern Michigan College’s governing body.
NMC board members on Monday unanimously approved a plan to start videotaping board meetings and posting the videos online.
Board member Bill Myers was the only board member who spoke before the vote.
Myers said college officials should monitor how many internet users visit the website where meeting videos will be posted.
“In a way, that’s a way of looking at community engagement, if we have a sense of how much traffic we get to this site,” Myers said during the meeting. “You could also argue that we want to have traffic to the site, because people will be taking an interest.”
The policy finalized Monday applies to regularly scheduled board meetings and “noticed and scheduled” special meetings and emergency meetings, NMC records show. It does not apply to board retreats, strategic planning meetings or committee meetings.
NMC President Tim Nelson said the policy should go into effect at the board’s April meeting.
