TRAVERSE CITY — The local Gap posted a sign in its fitting room that alerted customers to a major change.
“We have some exciting news to share … The Gap Outlet will be moving to a new location in May 2014!!! We are very excited to announce that we are relocating to The Grand Traverse Mall.”
The Gap will abandon its current store at the Horizon Outlet Mall in anticipation of a proposed 14-screen movie and mixed-use complex named the Buffalo Ridge Center that could take over the property.
Gap and Old Navy are relocating to the Grand Traverse Mall. Gap is scheduled to close in late April and open in its new location in early May. Old Navy is scheduled to close and open in its new location, formerly f.y.e., in mid-May.
Kitchen Collection manager Shawn Daniels said the store is relocating, but she didn’t know where.
The L’Eggs Hanes Bali Playtex outlet store is closing. The chain is set up to be an outlet store only. Assistant store manager Lyn Drzewiecki said the store will close because the proposed development will no longer be an outlet mall, and there are no other appropriate outlet malls in Traverse City for the store to call home.
The Famous Footwear outlet store closed. Carrie Bembeneck, assistant manager at the Famous Footwear in the mall, said the outlet store employees were brought over to the mall location.
