Man charged in slaying at Port Huron bonfire

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) — A 52-year-old man is charged with an open count of murder, accused of slitting the throat of a 26-year-old man as they gathered around a bonfire in Port Huron.

The Times Herald of Port Huron reports Michael Poole was arraigned Sunday and is being held at the St. Clair County Jail without bond. Online court records didn't yet list a lawyer for Poole, who's due in court for a June 18 preliminary hearing.

David Long of Port Huron died at an area hospital.

Police say the men were part of a small group at the bonfire Friday night and that the two had been arguing throughout the day.

Police say the suspect was arrested early Saturday at his home in Port Huron, northeast of Detroit.
