Pileup snarls US-31 traffic

TRAVERSE CITY — A multi-car pileup snarled traffic along US-31 this morning while a winter storm drifted snow onto the region's roadways, reduced visibility and closed schools.

The crash occurred about 11 a.m. near Bunker Hill Road in near-whiteout conditions. At least three vehicles were involved in the wreck and blocked southbound traffic, said Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Clark.

Clark said wreckers were dispatched to clear the vehicles off the road and the road commission was informed of the closure.
