TRAVERSE CITY — Two people face criminal charges after victims said they were assaulted at a Traverse City apartment.
Police issued warrants for the arrests of Amanda Sue Sawmick, 30, of Traverse City, and Maqwanibwit Deuman, 22, of Suttons Bay, after a March 16 incident.
Traverse City Police officers responded to the 900 block of E. Front Street on report of people fighting. It was evident several people had been assaulted but "at that time nobody stated that they wanted to do anything about it," according to a police report.
A victim later told police she was assaulted after she tried to break up a fight between Sawmick and another woman. She said Sawmick punched her multiple times, threw her to the ground and kicked her, according to a police report. The victim said she briefly lost consciousness, and when she came to, Sawmick hit her in the head with the legs of a metal chair.
The victim's boyfriend told police when he tried to help her, Deuman punched him in the face and split open his eyebrow, according to court documents.
A police report states the victims ran to a neighbor's apartment and called authorities.
Court records show Sawmick is charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, and Deuman faces a charge of misdemeanor aggravated assault.
