James Cook: Detroit gets a victory

By JAMES COOK

And there was much rejoicing.

Finally, mercifully, the Matt Millen era has come to an end in Detroit.

All across the country, the nation's overrated college wide receivers let out a collective sigh of disappointment, seeing their prospects of being picked in the top 10 cut in half.

All across the NFL, general managers came to the sudden realization that Detroit actually did have someone running things. None rushed to update their resume.

All across Michigan, Lions fans celebrated the franchise's biggest -- and only -- victory of the year during the team's bye week. You can't really expect a win any other time.

Don't expect things to change too much, though. Old man Ford is still running things, and it took a public admonishment from his son to get things moving on something that needed to be done for years.

I hear Kwame Kilpatrick is looking for a job. He's got as much experience running an NFL franchise as Millen did, so Ford may consider it.
