Twelve area hockey players have been selected to the state's all-state teams.
High-scoring Traverse City West forward Eric Rivard led the way with a Division 1 first-team selection. Rivard scored 32 goals and added 23 assists this season to set a single-season Titans records for goals and points. He had a +30 rating for the season, also leading the team.
Gaylord's Matt Zaremba was the area's other first-team pick, coming in Division 3. Zaremba set Gaylord's single-season points record with 55 in 24 games, and also sits atop the season assists list at 28. He led the Blue Devils with a +26 rating.
Defenseman David Hanrahan (27 points, +26 rating) was a second-team picks for the Titans, joined by honorable mention teammate Andy Bezotte.
Traverse City Central had four all-state picks, led by second-team Division 2 selections Dane Macdonell and Hunter Kelly.
Macdonell paced the Trojans with 30 points, including six game-winning goals among his 17 for the season.
Kelly posted a 13-7-1 record the Trojans in goal, putting up a .905 save percentage and giving up just 1.89 goals a game.
Forward Jared VanWormer and blueliners Eric Swy were honorable mention selections for Central.
Cadillac had three Division 3 picks, highlighted a pair of second-teamers: Goalie Mike Boike and forward Sean Kennedy. Defender Jake Gischia was honorable mention.
Kennedy was second in the Big North Conference with 17 points and nine goals, while Boike led the BNC in save percentage (.945), saves (342) and was tied for second in wins (six).
Forward Marek Pospisil was a second-team Division 1 pick for Manistee (14-9-2).
In addition, 11 area players were picked to the academic all-state team.
Traverse City Central was represented by four players -- Stephen Ball, Macdonell, Dan Spencer and Swy -- while TC West had three in P.J. Dienes, Hanrahan and Jake Nickerson.
Gaylord's Kyle Eckert, Steven Heedham, Brandon Knopp and Hunter Stier also made the team.
