Several readers identified the musical men dressed in drag in the History Center of Traverse City archive photo published Aug. 20 in the Community section.
Linda Byler was among several callers who recognized Joe Dolan as the accordion player.
She also identified Bud Lunderhan on the string bass and Bud Acker on the tenor saxophone. She thought the man on the far right wearing a headband was either Stu Bonner or Lee Hazard. Byler said several of these men played music with her grandfather, Herman Heater, who had a local jazz band in the 1940s-50s.
Annette Rosa also identified Dolan and Lunderhan in the photo. She said Dolan played with a trio at the Park Place Hotel.
She also recalled that he gave accordion lessons at the Minnema Music House in Traverse City.
Valerie Maidens recognized her mother and uncle in the History Center archive photo that appeared Aug. 27 in the Community section.
Maidens said her mother, Josephine Wanageshik-Anderson and her uncle, Elijah Wanageshik were photographed to promote a pancake breakfast at Sugar Loaf. She said the photograph, taken in 1964, appears in the book "The History of Leelanau Township."
Ruth Steele Walker, Paul Scott and Avis Wolfe also identified Josephine Wanageshik-Anderson and Elijah Wanageshik in the photograph.
