THE HISTORY CENTER OF TRAVERSE CITY
----

---- — Several readers identified one of the three men pictured in the Feb. 20 History Center of Traverse City archive photo.

Nancy (Cornwell) Walton said the gentleman in the middle is Doug Linder, owner of Linder Tire Co. on State Street in Traverse City.

"The famous Linder Tire Horse was 'ridden' by many children in the '50s and '60s," Walton said.

She added that Linder was an active community leader with a great sense of humor.

Retired state Sen. George McManus Jr. also recognized Linder in the photo. He added that Linder owned the State Street tire store and was a city leader. Mary Hunsberger Link also identified Doug Linder in the photograph.
