Reader identifies family picture

Don Shapton, of Thompsonville, identified the young family pictured in the Nov. 28 History Center archive photo. Shapton said the couple is Harold and Evelyn Schrouder along with their son John and daughter Sue.

He said Harold was a partner at Schrouder/Larkin Insurance. Harold was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force stationed in Australia. Evelyn worked many years as the coordinator for GBK architects (Grayheck, Bell and Cline). Harold was a very early member of the Rod and Gun club and an avid outdoorsman.

Shapton noted that Harold's father was R.D. Schrouder of Fotchman Motors of Traverse City. Evelyn's father was Louis Shapton who was one of the men who brought Michigan Tool to Traverse City as Cone Drive Gear and was foreman until his retirement in the mid 1960s. The Shapton family was from Charlevoix.
