alden  — A fundraiser for the 2013 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Michigan is being held this Sunday, Jan. 13, at Alden Bar and Grill.

Running from 4-8 p.m., the event will include a silent auction and 50-50 raffle. Tickets are $8 per person.

Sno-Blast is a go

East Jordan — All events for the East Jordan Sno-Blast will be held today through Sunday, Jan. 11-13, with the exception of the East Jordan Sno-Mobilers Club Radar Runs and Drag Races. Trails Day canceled

Traverse City — Because of warm weather and a prediction of rain, Winter Trails Day, scheduled for Saturday. Jan. 12, at Timber Ridge Resort has been canceled. To learn more about the Vasa Ski Club’s upcoming winter programs for new skiers, visit

TSO family concert

Traverse City — Traverse Symphony Orchestra musicians will perform an octet version of Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” at the next TSO family concert.

The free performance starts at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. To accompany the concert, 85 area students drew nearly 200 works of art while listening to a recording of the piece. Each drawing will be shown during the concert as part of a slideshow.

Bay Film Series

Suttons Bay — The Bay Film Series will screen the Danish film, “A Royal Affair.”

The movie will be shown at 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 and 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 14-15, at the Bay Theatre, St. Joseph St. Nonsubscribers are welcome at regular ticket prices. For details, visit

Sketch Live Music

Traverse City — Sketch Live Music will feature singer/songwriter Angela Josephine from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Goodwork Collective, 417 S. Union St. A $5 to $10 donation is appreciated.

Tai chi classes

Traverse City — The Health Education Institute, a partnership between Northwestern Michigan College and Munson Medical Center, will offer beginning, continuing and advanced tai chi classes for arthritis.

The beginning class meets 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 17-March 7. The continuing class will meet 5-6 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 14-March 4, for those who have already taken the beginning class. An advanced class will run 3:45-4:45 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 14-March 4.
