TRAVERSE CITY —

POW-MIA ceremony

The public is invited to attend a POW-MIA Recognition Day ceremony at 6 p.m. tonight, Sept. 21 at the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Plaque, 544 E. Front St.

Rolling Thunder Michigan Chapter #1 will present the Six Missing Man Table Ceremony followed by a playing of "Taps." Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2780 Honor Guard will present flags, followed by a rifle salute. The Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition is also involved in the ceremony.

Reader auditions

Glen Arbor — Auditions for the Glen Arbor Art Association Readers' Theater production of "The 39 Steps" will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the GAAA, 6031 S. Lake St. Performances are Dec. 1-2. For details, call (972) 965-3950 or email masonquery@mac.com.

Parkinson's group

Traverse City — Dr. Paul Callaghan of Traverse City will discuss living with a chronic condition at the Wednesday, Sept. 26, meeting of the Grand Traverse Area Parkinson's Support Group. The group will meet at 10 a.m. at the Senior Center, 801 E. Front St.

Museum meeting

Empire — The community is invited to the 1 p.m. meeting of the Empire Area Heritage Group on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Empire Area Museum Complex. Details for the Oct. 13 Fall Heritage Day will be discussed.

Church sale

Traverse City — The United Methodist Women at Central United Methodist Church will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the church, 222 Cass St. For details, call 946-5191.

Dinner helps Habitat

Frankfort — Frankfort United Methodist Church, 537 Crystal Ave., will host a spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Benzie County. Donations will be accepted.

Authors read

Traverse City — Three authors will give readings Monday, Sept. 24, at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front St.

Aaron Stander, Elizabeth Buzzelli and Mardi Link will read from their books from 5 to 7 p.m. Stander will introduce "The Cruelest Month," the sixth book in his Sheriff Ray Elkins series. Elizabeth Buzzelli is the author of the Emily Kincaid mystery series. Mardi Link is the author of "Isadore's Secret" and "When Evil Came to Good Hart."
