Veterans Day vigil
TRAVERSE CITY — Veterans for Peace will hold a “Faces of the Fallen” all-day vigil on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, in memory of Michigan soldiers who lost their lives while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The names and photographs of each soldier will be memorialized during the vigil, which starts at 8 a.m. at the Open Space on Grandview Parkway. Taps will be performed at 11 a.m. followed by the reading of the names of the fallen service members. The public is invited to participate in the reading of the names.

TRAVERSE CITY — Saturday, Nov. 9, is public viewing night from 9-11 p.m. at Rogers Observatory on Birmley Road. Admission is $2 per person or $5 per family. For details, call 995-2300.
Sierra Club hike
ANTRIM COUNTY — The Sierra Club will offer a one or two-hour hike on the scenic Dead Man’s Hill Jordan River Pathway trail.

GS open house
TRAVERSE CITY — The Girl Scouts of MI Shore to Shore will host a free open house on Monday, Nov. 11.
Visitors from 5:30-7:30 p.m. can enjoy activities for children, free caramel apples, doughnuts and cider and sign girls up for the 2013-14 Girl Scout Year. Information on volunteering also will be available. Registration is not required.

Hiking Club benefit
TRAVERSE CITY — A slide show on Thursday, Nov. 14, will benefit the Grand Traverse Hiking Club’s new Fife Lake NCT loop.
