n Baker College Online programs have recently been recognized in four national rankings. They are: the number-one most affordable school for online associate degrees, ranked by SuperScholar.org in its “Smart Choice” series; one of the best online master’s of business administration programs by value, ranked by Frugal Dad; placement in the top 13 most affordable bachelor’s of health services administration degree programs, ranked by GetEducated.com; and placement in the top 15 most affordable online bachelor’s of science degrees in nursing programs, ranked by GetEducated.com.

n Alexa Hettwer, of Lake Ann, graduated in the spring of 2013 from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass.

n Four recent Elk Rapids High School (ERHS) graduates presented Carol Maten with a plaque and flowers in recognition for her years of service and dedication to the “love of learning”. Fifteen years ago Maten opened Wooden Pony preschool and had her very first “graduation of pre-schoolers.” That first class was this year’s ERHS graduating seniors.

n Suttons Bay resident Jerry M. Linenger, M.D., M.S.S.M., M.P.H, Ph.D., USN Capt. (ret.), will receive the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s 2013 Trailblazer Award at a Golden Gala event in October. Dr. Linenger is a 1981 graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine.
