Healthy cooking

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Seventh-day Adventist Church will offer a "Healthy Cooking Class" starting Wednesday, Feb. 6.

The class will meet 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays through March 27, at the church. Each week includes lectures, demonstrations, five recipes and food samples.

'Off the Wall' film

ALDEN — The French film "Hedgehog" is the next movie in the "Off the Wall" film series.

The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road. An optional meal starts at 6 p.m. Attendees may bring food for the meal and donations are appreciated. For details or to register, call 331-4318.

Int'l School

ACME — Traverse City Area Public Schools' International School at Bertha Vos (IS@BV) will host information meetings for the 2013-14 school year.

Meetings start at 6 p.m. in the IS@BV library, 3723 Shore Dr., on Thursday, Feb. 7; Monday, Feb. 11, (Kindergarten Parent Meeting); Tuesday, Feb.19; Thursday, Feb. 28; Thursday, March 21; Wednesday, April 17; and Tuesday, May 7.

Dance social

TRAVERSE CITY — The Dance Center will host a dance social Friday, Feb. 8.

A lesson from 7:15 to 8 p.m. will be followed by open dancing until 10 p.m. at the Dance Center, 225 E. 14th St.

Student play

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City West Senior High School Drama Department will stage "The Emperor's New Clothes" on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. each night in the WSH auditorium, 5376 N. Long Lake Road. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors citizens; $10 for adults. For details, call 933-7509.

Senior events

TRAVERSE CITY — Glen Eagle senior living community will host a weekend of "sweet" events for area senior citizens.

A "Chocolate Extravaganza" starts at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. The Adventure Travel Club will offer a travelogue of Italy at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, and a Sweetheart Dance will start at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.

Senior luncheon

INTERLOCHEN — The senior luncheon on Monday, Feb. 11, will have a Valentine's Day theme.

The event will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, U.S. 31 and Rogers Road. Armchair exercises at 11 a.m., will be followed by lunch at noon and games. The meal is $3; activities are free. Attendees may bring a sack lunch.

Pancake breakfast

TRAVERSE CITY — Boy Scout Troop 36 will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 10, in conjunction with Boy Scout Sunday at Central United Methodist Church,

The meal will be served from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 222 Cass St. A free-will offering will be taken to help fund troop activities. For details about the meal or the troop, call 946-5191.

Torch area potluck

EASTPORT — The Upper Torch Lake Association will hold its monthly potluck Monday, Feb. 11, at the Torch Lake Township Community Services building, U.S. 31.

A 6 p.m. social hour will be followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Attendees should bring a beverage, table service and a dish to share with a list of its ingredients. All area residents are invited.

Humanists meet

TRAVERSE CITY — Greg LaCross, NMC biochemistry, genetics, and biology instructor, will discuss "The Science of Evolution" at the Monday, Feb. 11, meeting of the Grand Traverse Humanists.
