Manton seniors

Manton — A variety show and bake sale will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, to benefit the Manton Senior Center.

The show will take place at the Manton School 5th Street gym. A $5 donation at the door is suggested. Baked goods also will be available to purchase. For details, call 824-6961.

Empty Bowls

TRAVERSE cBlackbird Arts' Family Art Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, will benefit the Empty Bowls Project.

Potter Phil Wilson will teach the basics of slab building a bowl with a form. Each participant will create a bowl to take home and one to donate to the April 14 Empty Bowls event. Chez Peres/Patisserie Amie will provide a soup and bread dinner. The $17 cost per person includes materials, firings and the meal. A portion of the proceeds benefits Empty Bowls and the Fresh Food Partnership.

Park clean up

Empire — Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park clean up is Saturday, Sept. 29.

Mini powwow

Traverse City — Oryana Natural Food Market will observe Native American Day with a mini powwow.

The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Oryana, 260 E. 10th St. There will be drumming, dancers in full regalia, and American Indian food samples. There is no charge and the public is invited. For details, visit www.oryana.coop/events.
