• Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will host a kickoff meeting for Adopt-A-Beach volunteers at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, in the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center on M-72 in Empire.
Adopt-A-Beach Patrol is ideal for those looking for a way to help keep Lake Michigan beaches beautiful while enjoying a relaxing walk on the beach once a month. Many of the volunteers are families or groups of friends who enjoy hiking beaches together.
If you would like to Adopt-A-Beach, but are unable to attend the training meeting, contact Kerry Kelly, Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes, at PR@friendsofsleepingbear.org, or call 631-4244.
• Volunteers are needed at Grand Traverse Pavilions to help transport seniors in wheelchairs from their residences to activities and rehabilitation. There is also a need to assist with off-campus field trips. To volunteer, call Gail Spicer of the Volunteer Center at 932-3019 for an application and orientation.
