Safety Day

Brunch and flowers

ARCADIA — Brunch plus a garden sale and exchange will be hosted today, May 11, at the Pleasant Valley Community Center, M-22 and Glovers Lake Road.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is $8 for adults and $3 for ages 12 and younger. For details, call 590-8435.

Makerspace

TRAVERSE CITY — The first Traverse City Area Public Schools Makerspace will be open 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, May 11 and 18, at Old Mission Peninsula School, 2699 Island View Road.

A Makerspace is a place for students to make, play and design using real materials, tools, processes and ideas. It is designed to encourage learners to pursue science, technology, engineering and math by creating fun, hands-on learning opportunities. Guys’ book group

TRAVERSE CITY — The “Guys Read, Too” book group, for boys in third through seventh grade, will meet Monday, May 13, at Peninsula Community Library, 2699 Island View Road.

The group will discuss NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire’s book “STAT: Standing Tall and Talented” at 4:15 p.m. Books may be checked out at the library on a first come, first served basis. For details, call 223-7700 or visit www.peninsulacommunitylibrary.org.

Culinary workshop

PETOSKEY — The Crooked Tree Arts Center’s Culinary Series on Wednesday, May 15, will feature Maria Nicholson, who will share cures for the common meal.
